EHZC ANNUAL APPEAL
"A sangha is a community of friends practicing the dharma together in order to bring about and to maintain awareness. The essence of a sangha is awareness, understanding, acceptance, harmony and love....when you find these elements are present in a community, you know that you have the happiness and fortune of being in a real sangha." ~ Thich Nhat Hanh
Dear Sangha Members, Friends, and Supporters of Empty Hand Zen Center,
In this past year, we have witnessed the tremendous strength, love, and commitment to practice within our sangha.
Our beloved teacher Kaku Robert Gunn retired last March, and although for a moment we as a sangha were thrown off-guard, we rebounded, grounded in the resilience of our practice. The dharma teachings, and deep care for our sangha from Kaku and from all our beloved teachers before him fortified us to continue to thrive in our sangha and in our practice together.
We have been blessed by the presence and generosity of our new teacher Ryotan (Ryo) Randall Eiger. Along with Ryo who comes once a week, our own zen priest JiZan Deborah Wood and senior sangha members have stepped up to offer dharma talks and to keep the dharma wheel turning at Empty Hand.
We continue to offer an oasis, a refuge for stillness, peace, and transformation where all are welcome.
Now, we vitally need your generous financial support and are initiating our Annual Fall Fundraising Drive.
The practice of giving is ultimately about each of us participating in making the dharma available. For each of us, our donation is a way to demonstrate appreciation and gratitude for the teachings, as well as for the people and places where the teaching abides.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 in year-end donations in addition to any balance remaining on membership dues.
This goal of $10,000 is vital to maintaining our beautiful practice center at 45 Lawton Street and to
supporting our teachers and programs.
Donations may be made by check, cash, or by PayPal on our website; please note on your payment that your donation is for the Fall Fundraising Drive.
All donations are fully tax deductible.
We hope to be able to announce that we have fulfilled our goal by the end of December.
With Deepest Gratitude,
The Empty Hand Zen Center Board of Directors
