Dear Empty Hand Sangha,

This morning I sent an email to the Board of Empty Hand announcing my resignation effective March 31. I explicitly let everyone know that my reason for resigning is solely because I have decided that I want to spend the next chapter of my life in closer proximity to my daughters, Allison and Lara. Were it not for that issue, I would gladly continue at Empty Hand indefinitely. I enjoy all our work together, from daily services to zazenkais and daisan. You are an alert and dedicated sangha and have been strengthened by the challenges you have encountered over recent years. Out of consideration for all you have been through, I am deeply sorry to put you in the position of once again searching for a new teacher; even more, I am personally saddened to end our work, which has been deeply, happily gratifying, so that I will miss continuing our work together.

As part of my letter to the Board, I suggested several program possibilities. You will hear more specifically about this as details emerge.

I apologize for the form of this announcement and its brevity. However, I thought it better to let you know sooner rather than later because otherwise rumor and rumbles confuse things!

With sincere gratitude for our practice together and very best wishes going forward,
